Fun Ideas for Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

[:en]While many people think of St. Patrick’s Day as the holiday when college kids get drunk on too much green beer, there is actually a lot more to it than that. Traditionally, St. Patrick’s Day was when the Irish celebrated their patron saint with a delicious feast. In the United States, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations began as a way for Irish immigrants to bond and celebrate their heritage.

These days, anyone can celebrate this fun holiday, even if you don’t have any Irish ancestry at all. Here are a few fun ideas for you and your family:

Try A Few Delicious Recipes

Recipes for St. Patrick’s Day range from traditional Irish food to fun and delicious holiday-themed treats. If you want to try your hand at traditional Irish fare, why not make some corned beef and cabbage with Irish soda bread for dessert? If you’re feeling a bit more creative or throwing a St. Patrick’s Day party, try one of these tasty recipes, like mint chocolate Guinness brownies.

Play Irish Music

Look for Celtic or Irish music on your music streaming service of choice to give you some ideas for a St. Patrick’s Day playlist. For a more modern and rowdy take on Irish music, check out popular Irish punk bands like the Pogues or Flogging Molly.

Build a “Leprechaun Trap”

If you have kids, a fun idea is to help them make a leprechaun trap. This is usually a simple craft made from an old cardboard or cereal box that you can decorate with green construction paper, gold glitter, and plenty of shamrock stickers. Your kids will get to pretend to “trap” a leprechaun, and you can leave them a surprise “pot of gold” (perhaps a tiny pot of gold chocolate coins) as their reward. Here is a cute tutorial for making your own.

Set Up a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Another cute idea for kids is to create a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt with a pot of gold waiting at the end. Your kids will have so much fun figuring out the clues and hunting for their treasure. This site has free printable scavenger hunt clues you can use.

Host an Irish Beer Tasting

For the grownups and beer aficionados, skip the green beer and instead set up an Irish beer tasting for your friends. You can set out a beer flight with several of these well-rated Irish beers. Don’t forget to include plenty of snacks and a couple of non-alcoholic beverage options as well.

However you decide to celebrate, Fluent wishes you and your family a very happy St. Patrick’s Day![:]
